The Boone Central Board of Education met on Monday, December 10, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. in the Boone Central School FCS room located at 605 S. 6th; Albion, Nebraska.  Members present:  Cindy Hemmer, Karen Kayton, Patti Meyer, Tim Preister, Larry Temme.  Member absent:  Tom Briese.  Others present;  Tim Hamilton,  Darrell Barnes, Joyce Olson, Larry Lambert, Gay Sandman.

 

1.000        CALL TO ORDER – President Temme called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

                 1.001      Motion by Kayton, second by Preister to approve the agenda with the change to 3.010  to ÒfinalÓ reading rather than ÒfirstÓ reading.  Carried 5-0

 

                 1.002      Motion by Meyer, second by Hemmer to approve the minutes of the board meeting held Monday, November 12, 2007.  Carried 5-0

 

                 1.003      Motion by Kayton, second by Preister to excuse absent board member, Tom Briese .  Carried 5-0

 

                 1.004      The next regular meeting is Monday, January 14, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the Library in Boone Central Middle School in Petersburg.  An agenda will be kept current in the SuperintendentÕs Office.

2.020      Recognition – Emily Bowman, 8th grader, won the VFW PatriotÕs Pen Competition for the Albion area. Petersburg was recognized as one of Business WeekÕs ÒBest Places to Raise Your Children.Ó

                               2.081     Elementary PrincipalÕs Report – Mr. Hamilton reported on NWEA testing results and gave a preschool update.                   

 

                               2.082     Middle School PrincipalÕs Report – Mrs. Thieman was absent because of a middle school basketball game.                    

 

                               2.083     Secondary PrincipalÕs Report – Mr. Barnes reported on football honors, academic decathlon team, and NWEA results.                          

                               2.084     Special Ed DirectorÕs Report  - Mrs. Olson reported on her college credits towards a vision endorsement.  She is working on adapting curriculum for middle school special needs students.                               

 

                               2.085              SuperintendentÕs Report

1.     SuperintendentÕs Calendar – meeting at ESU 7 on Dec. 19. 

2.     Discussed annual financial report that was sent to patrons.

3.     Class I update  - Bids are being taken for hand school bells from Districts 57 and 60 on school website.  District 95 school proceeds will be distributed this month.

4.     Flex Education. Alternative SchoolÕs enrollment has continued to grow.

5.     Legislative update – 403(b) plans need to be revised by January 2009.

6.     Parking around Albion site – Surveys were given to elementary parents and staff members.  Results have been shared with the City of Albion.

7.     EMC dividend of $2,065 was received in recognition of workmanÕs comp favorable loss experience this past year.

8.     Tan van needs $1200 of repairs.  New bus has an electronic problem, which is being repaired in Norfolk.

á             Curriculum committee will meet this week about adding economics class.

á             Reports on state school board convention sessions.                       

á             School board leadership session on January 30.

3.010     Motion by Meyer, second by Hemmer to approve the final reading of Board Policy on Business Operations 701 through 710.   Carried 5-0

 

3.020     Motion by Kayton, second by Presiter to approve early graduation request for Matt Beard and Samantha Moore.  Carried 5-0

 

3.030     Motion by Meyer, second by Preister to table the nomination for   area delegate representative to school board association to replace Susan Decamp.  Carried 5-0

               Motion by Meyer, second by Hemmer to go into executive session at 8:45 p.m. to discuss personnel and the evaluation of job performances clearly necessary for the protection of the public interest or for the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual in compliance with the law.  Carried 5-0
