                Relief, bas-relief  design in clay tile for a mural design. Mold making for editions of tiles and technical info on types of materials used for materials. Paper casting from plaster mold.

 

Week 6 Ð 9                                                                      Time Commitment

                                                                                                                             3 weeks

                Sculpture - clay manipulation. Construct a clay sculpture from a wire and paper armature.  Artist; Robert Arneson (Asian, Egyptian, African, Spanish) Clay head, work on proportions of human and/or an animal. Hollow out, dry, fire, make base, paint on patina and display. Construct; Clay Mask of many cultures project. Study of masks and different cultures that used them.

Week 10 Ð 13                                                                 Time Commitment

                                                                                                                              3 Weeks

                Subtractive method of sculpture.Allan Houser, Michelangelo, Greek, Roman, Northwest Coast Indians (Totem Pole), Work in plaster, soapstone, wood.  Ideas are from sketches developed earlier. Discussion of tools, balance,patterns, movement, repetition, techniques, artist examples. Sculpture polished and base made for display.

 

Week 14 Ð 18                                                                                 Time Commitment

                                                                                                                                             4 weeks

                Lost wax method explored in form of jewelry casting and small bronze casting. Construction of clay image or direct wax and mold to reproduce image. Kinetic/ mobile sculpture (Alexander Calder) Balance, movement.
